Style Tips for Plus Size Women

Choosing the right fashion accessories can make or break your look. Here are some tips and tricks on how to use jewelry and shoes to give yourself a slimmer silhouette.

Picking a Necklace: When wearing necklaces, pick a medium length necklace with small to medium gemstones and/or beads. Shorter necklaces tend to bring more attention to your neck, which you may want to avoid. And if the necklace is too long, it accentuates a large bust line. So stick with a medium length necklace with medium sized beads or gemstones. Another tip is to wear square or rectangular pendants instead of circular shaped pendants. Wearing a circular pendant with a round body type tends to accentuate your weight.

Earrings: To make your face look leaner, wear longer earrings. The longer lines of the earrings will make your face look leaner. Especially when wearing your hair up, avoid studs and small earrings as they tend to make your face look big. Smaller earrings work fine if your hair is down.

Belts: Wear a slim to medium-width belt - fabric belts are fine too. A belt instantly defines a waist line and gives the impression of an hour glass figure. Some fashion experts say that a thin belt is best for a larger waist line, and others say that a medium-width belt high on the waist has the same effect. Another tip is to wear a belt with a large buckle, This will shape your waist a bit more. If possible, wear a belt with a square buckle - as we mention above, circular shapes make you look rounder so square buckles tend to work better.

Shoes: Wear heels if you can. Similar to wearing long earrings, long heels instantly make you look taller, and hence slimmer. Like the age-old advice of wearing dark colors, wear dark colored shoes as well. It’ll make your legs looks slimmer, especially if you’re wearing a short dress. To take it a step further, wear shoes with thin long heels. Wearing chunky heels defeats the purpose.

As always, your goal of dressing up should not just be to look good - it should make you feel good as well. Don’t follow fashion trends just because they are trends. If you don’t feel comfortable in them, your outfit won’t give you the confidence that comes with looking good, so it defeats the purpose. While being obese isn’t good for your general well being, being a bit overweight shouldn’t stop you from looking good.
