Improving Employee Morale With Employee Service Awards

Whether you run a large corporation with hundreds of employees or a small business with only a few, employee morale and motivation should be one of your primary concerns. Employees who feel valued and enjoy their work environment are likely to be far more energetic and productive than those who do not. One way that you can improve morale and increase motivation is through employee service awards.

Large companies often offer their employees long term incentive benefits, such as 401kS and pensions. While a small business that is just starting out may not be able to provide this level of reward, it is still extremely important for a fledgling business to find a way to recognize its employees. Consistency and high performance from your first employees can be the driving force behind success at the beginning of a business. Morale and motivation are important tools for helping to increase performance.

Awards do not have to be monetary. If your business can afford monetary awards, these are always appreciated. Even a small bonus for good employees at the holidays will go a long way towards improving morale and company-employee relations.

If your business is brand new, though, you may simply not have enough profit to award employees monetarily. There are definitely other things you can do.

You might think that small tokens, such as a certificate of recognition or a designation as “employee of the month” would not be worthwhile. However, even such a small thing can make a difference in the morale of the employee who receives it. It will also show all of your workers that you are paying attention to the way they perform individually, and not just seeing them as a machine.

One way to reward all of your employees at once is with a company party. At a social event, your employees can get to know each other and build relationships in a relaxed, fun setting. This is likely to improve their morale and the way that they work as a team on a daily basis.

It is important that there is a somewhat egalitarian nature to the awards you give. Although you are rewarding service and performance, you want to make sure that all employees have equal access to rewards if they deserve them. This means that you should spread your recognition among departments, and find several different aspects of performance to periodically commend. For instance, one month you might recognize an employee who has increased your sales. The next month, give an award to an employee who has fostered teamwork and camaraderie among his or her fellow staff members. The next month award the person whose performance has improved the most.

Employee service awards are a wonderful way to increase morale and motivate your employees, but they cannot work alone. If awards are part of a generally unpleasant work environment, they will seem out of place, and will be interpreted as a poor effort to give the appearance of valuing employees. However, if they are worked into an upbeat, pleasant, healthy day to day environment, they will be a great motivational tool. Make sure that your management philosophy values and recognizes employees all the time, not just on certain occasions.

The Joys of a Vacation to Spain

If only I didn’t have to work, I’d travel the world as often as I possibly could. I want to see every country in the world, though I know that’s not reasonable. Nonetheless, I go as much as I’m able to and I have another trip planned later for this year. Traveling is one of my favorite things in life.

I’ve tried to make it a point to visit as many countries as I can during my life, and I plan on visiting many more. Still, there’s one place that I’ve visited that stands out in my mind more than any other.

The country I speak of is Spain, a beautiful European nation that I hope to go back to within the next year. My trip there was one of the best of my life, and I’d like to tell you some more about this great destination.

Nestled in the southern part of Europe below France, Spain is one of the more unique European countries. The scenery is beautiful, but the way they live is what I find most intriguing.

There are mountains and beaches in Spain, with beaches lining the East and South coast of the country. In the East, you can visit some great cities on the water, like Barcelona and Valencia.

Make it a point to visit the Costa del Sol as well, which is the Southern part of Spain. There are plenty of resort cities with beaches, casinos, nightclubs, restaurants, resort hotels, and more.

My favorite part of Spain, though, was Madrid. Modern yet traditional and true to the Spanish culture’s roots, this gave me the most authentic Spanish experience of any of the cities.

The food was the most authentic that I had in Spain, and I sampled some delicious tapas, sangria, and more. There was some great sightseeing in Madrid as well.

I could go on and on about Spain, but I’ll leave it at that. There are some great airfare and hotel deals out right now, and I would definitely suggest considering Spain if you plan on traveling soon.
